Instant Pot Spinach Dal

Ingredients

  • 1/4 cup toor dal (split pigeon peas)
  • 1/4 cup masoor dal (red lentil)
  • 1 tablespoon vegetable oil
  • 3 garlic cloves, chopped
  • 1 green chili, chopped
  • 1/2 teaspoon cumin seeds
  • 1/4 teaspoon mustard seeds
  • 1 large tomato, chopped
  • 5 oz spinach, chopped (about 1.5 cups)
  • 1/4 teaspoon turmeric powder
  • 1.5 cups water
  • 1/4 teaspoon garam masala
  • Juice of 1/2 lemon
  • Salt to taste
  • Cilantro for garnish

Instructions

  1. Wash and rinse the dals
  2. Use Instant Pot's saute mode, add oil, cumin and mustard seeds
  3. Add garlic and green chili, saute until golden
  4. Add tomato and cook for a minute
  5. Add spinach and mix
  6. Add salt and turmeric, cook 1-2 minutes
  7. Add rinsed dal and stir
  8. Add water, close lid
  9. Cook on high pressure for 10 minutes
  10. Natural release for 6-7 minutes
  11. Adjust salt, add garam masala, cilantro, and lemon juice
  12. Serve hot with boiled rice
